Located across from Doomben Racecourse, where the affluent suburbs of Ascot, Clayfield, and Hendra intersect, Racecourse Village is a premium retail experience servicing the local community. A joint venture between the Brisbane Racing Club and Woolworths, the 6,000 square metre shopping centre opened in August 2018 and was designed and delivered by ThomsonAdsett Architects. The Centre was awarded the Excellence in Presentation for the 2019 QLD Retail Property Awards. Racecourse Village features the first Woolworths 3.0 in Queensland and 23 other specialty stores, including restaurants, a medical centre, a gym, and a pharmacy. Dubbed “Woolworths 3.0”, the next-generation store was the first of its kind in Queensland. A drive-through service area with dedicated parks to collect online shopping, an expanded range of ready to eat meals and made to order cakes, an onsite butcher, fresh flatbread, a cheese cave with a large international selection, and flame-roasted rotisserie chickens are just some of the premium features offered by Woolworths Racecourse Village.

Due to the upmarket nature of the centre, Alkot Studio was engaged as the Retail Design Manager to oversee the project. We focussed on securing a balanced tenancy mix, making sure that the village hub was designed to maximise customer service and amenity. To ensure design longevity, the architecture of the main building and the external al fresco dining precinct were in visual harmony. Racecourse Village honours the past whilst ushering in the new. Dual gabled, barn-style roofs pay homage to the heritage racecourse precinct, which has been an integral part of the community for over 150 years, whilst a 350kW solar panel system sustainably saves 300 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. It was imperative that the scale, size, and design was consistent with the character of Eagle Farm Racecourse.

Forward-thinking, sustainable design, and a focus on user experience have ensured that Racecourse Village remains an integral and vibrant addition to the neighbourhood.
